LAZARUS I

Character models for a book of Spanish literature that I illustrated a few years ago: THE LIFE OF LAZARILLO DE TORMES AND HIS FORTUNES AND ADVERSITIES. Original written work from 1554. Published in Barcelona.
I designed an art concept based on puppets, dolls, old figures made with clothes or puppets. An unkind style and a careless look expressly sought after. Because the novel narrates the unfortunate life of a surviving child of that time of the Renaissance. And denounce abuse, robbery, pedophilia, mockery, the Catholic Church, etc.
The drawings are in graphite on sketch paper. For the color I used Schmincke watercolors applying the color as a loose and careless point. On the scanner, I came up with the idea to reduce the color spectrum. The end result gave the appearance of an engraving or serigraphy. Then I adjusted the contrast of the colors with Photoshop
